letterpress: song/poem/prayer

assignment

• choose a song/poem/prayer
• must be layed out typographically correct in the typeface of your choice
• must fit within the bounds of a 5×7 (or 7×5) frame
• title (optional)
• attribution (optional) but if there is one, set it appropriately (must be flush right, and preceeded by an em dash[opt+shift+hyphen])
• this assignment is for steve & earl to understand our sense of design and type, it will not be printed with the press (but we are still to put our hearts and souls into it..)
• print two copies and bring to class next week.

other notes from class 1

• next week we will be setting our initials in type (the old school metal type yea!)
• normally when we design something, we will need to save it as an illustrator .eps and email it. steve and earl dont use the old school type much, they have very little of it in fact, and now what they use are photopolymer plates, so from the .eps it, something happens and then a  laser cuts those plates to mirror our design.. something like that… while i was hoping for more use of the old school metal type, this method, allows us to design and print images too.
• we are not allowed to be there any other day than when we have class (monday) but we can come in as early as noon and stay later.
